Our Story
Alvechurch and Bordesley Nursery School was founded by Irene Whittaker in 1988. The nursery school originally operated from Mrs Whittaker’s home. It has developed and changed location over the years, but the ethos has always remained that ‘the children are at the heart of everything that happens in this nursery’.
Mrs Whittaker’s daughter, Joceline, has always been involved throughout her life, from attending herself in her Early Years to making a toy or coming into see the children when she wasn’t in school. In 2008, Joceline officially joined the team and works in partnership with Mrs Whittaker to continually develop the incredible setting to ensure the ethos continues for many years to come.

We are predominantly an outdoor setting spending our time in the fresh air, in the changing seasons. However, we also have a delightful indoor space, creating a home from home environment to use if the weather is too bad!

Fields with public footpaths surround the nursery so the wider outdoors can be explored. We also have a magnificent view of the trains passing by!
It is important that we connect with our local community so that the children have an understanding of the world around them and a sense of belonging.
We participate in activities within our village, such as Remembrance Day.
We are often on walks to the canal, in the fields and to the park.
We visit the church, library, dentist and the Lounge community cafe to name a few.
