Allocation Process
Intake
Our main intake is in September, as this is when the majority of places become available due to our preschoolers moving on to school. However, we do take children at other times during the year, depending on availability. Many of you will know that places at our nursery school are extremely limited and in high demand. Unfortunately, this means we are not able to offer a place to every family that applies. Allocating places is a challenging task, and it is never easy to inform families that we are unable to accommodate their child.
To provide clarity and transparency, we would like to share the key criteria we use when allocating places:
1. Sibling Priority
Children with siblings who are current or past pupils of the nursery school receive top priority. These families are given the opportunity to secure a place before our open day.
2. Age of the Child
We aim to maintain a balanced mix of ages within each day to ensure a cohesive learning environment. For this reason, availability may differ based on the child’s age. For example, there may be an opening for a 1-year-old but not for a 3-year-old.
3. Number of Days Requested
Priority is given to children who attend more days per week. Full-time attendance is especially favoured, as it contributes to consistency within the group.
4. Preferred Start Date
Families looking to start in September or October are prioritised, as this aligns with our academic calendar.
5. Monday and Friday Availability
Mondays and Fridays tend to be quieter days at our nursery school. Therefore, families who require both of these days are more likely to secure a place.
6. Flexibility in Days
Families who have flexibility in their preferred days are easier to accommodate. If you need a set number of days but do not have a strong preference for specific days, we are more likely to find suitable availability.
We hope this provides a clear understanding of how we allocate places at our nursery school. We are committed to making this process as fair and transparent as possible.
